Making a difference
Karen Lynas is a wise and hugely accomplished leader. She has experience across many organisations that informs her deep understanding of organisational functioning and effective leadership, particularly in health services. Her appreciation of the complexity and rapidly changing environments leaders face is refreshing and rare, along with her responsiveness and sensitivity to the political realities of organisations. She combines this with a humanity and with humility to ensure she offers authentic and inspiring support that makes a difference to individuals, teams and organisations. And she is a delight to work with.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Karen at the Yorkshire and Humber Nightingale. As some of you will be aware setting up the Nightingale facilities has to be achieved in an unprecedented context under intense scrutiny and at a pretty relentless pace . Karen provided the leadership for a number of the workforce priorities including creating the induction , education and training capable of supporting hundreds of staff with innovative rapid deployment. Whilst Karen’s technical expertise and skills were impressive she brought much more to the team. I really enjoyed my experience of meeting and working with Karen and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to colleagues . I hope our paths cross again.

Global Head of Healthcare, Government & Infrastructure.
Karen has been directing the WIG Senior Leaders Programme since 2018, over that time the programme has gone from strength to strength. Karen has led a team of three Facilitators working with Directors from across business, civil service, public sector and charities to work collaboratively on the leadership challenges and opportunities of the day. Karen has brought significant rigour and expertise to the overall programme design. Her own executive experience and development skillset has enabled her to create a learning environment for senior leaders that offers collegial support within an environment of stretch, provocation and challenge. Her style is direct, easily getting to the heart of issues, articulately challenging assumptions and warmly stimulating dialogue and debate which engenders huge respect and deep insights among senior leaders. As the commissioner of Karen for this work, she has always been a great partner, one who understands the broader picture and has taken great care to understand the ethos of our organisation. The WIG Senior Leaders Programme has been engaging with leaders across the sectors for over 20 years and Karen has skilfully built on that legacy to ensure its relevance and longevity for the years to come.

Karen has a unique set of talents. She is personable, warm and approachable. She does not avoid getting to the issues people sometimes find difficult to surface or acknowledge. She has great skills in getting to those places whilst building confidence and self-esteem. She has enormous integrity - is guided by strong personal values and beliefs and uses those principles in the pursuit of excellence. She is also great fun!

Karen supported us on procuring a specific Executive Development Programme. Through an inclusive approach with Directors, Karen was able to use her skills and experience to help us determine what we needed, and what we didn’t need, so we were able to drive the discussions with suppliers based upon our requirements. Karen also helped support us through the full procurement process, helping us to match suppliers with what we wanted, and with team fit.
